Way back when, these 2 tinies started cutting in at around 8 months...
Officially came in at 9 months...
Those first teeth coming are killing me with cuteness in that adorable smile of Daniel's!!
And, well, now we have another sort of cuteness around here...
And wait...that's not it...
There's another one gone! Now that's a cute toothless smile!
So, the story...I know you're waiting for it...you know you'll get it! Hope you don't get the heebie jeebies about loose teeth like Ben!
Daniel came up to me one Saturday morning, July 2nd to be exact, and said his tooth hurt. All this waiting for loose teeth, I didn't for one second see it coming- I thought it was just a cankersore or some food caught in his teeth or perhaps a sign of a cavity developing or something like that, but then when I took a look, it was totally a LOOSE TOOTH!!! I simultaneously jumped up and down with excitement and started crying! I may have also asked for the next 20 minutes if I could wiggle it again. My baby, my baby!, had a loose tooth...finally, FINALLY!! We've been waiting and waiting and waiting and well we just gave up. 7 years 9 months old- that's a good long while to wait! Annabel was incredibly jealous from the get go- "When can I have a loose tooth?!!" she whined. Oh boy. Gonna be a long road for her if it's like this every time. But- she was also so sweetly excited for him, too. Annabel kept clapping and trying to give Daniel hugs. So she was excited, too.
Anyway, by my wiggling test, I'd guessed about 5 days to a week for it to fall out; it wasn't that loose. Daniel couldn't wait to tell Daddy and no I could not text anyone he said, and I agreed- it was his news to share when he was ready. I did warn the kids that loose teeth give Daddy the heebie jeebies, which prompted a conversation about what that meant. Annabel asked, "What gives ME the heebie jeebies?" I said only she could tell me and time would tell- she'll know when something creeps her out! Fingernails on a chalkboard and cold clammy feet on me give me the heebie jeebies- ooh, I shudder. Anyway, funny conversation.
Daniel was concerned that his tooth would fall out at night while he was sleeping, which was a cute, sweet, and innocent worry. He was also very nervous about eating, just for that day of discovery; he did get over that just fine and ate normally. And then I basically never heard another word about it. It was just sort of there, floating around as general knowledge that it would come out soon.
Fast forward one week- Saturday July 9th! We went out to dinner at Portillo's and Daniel up and pulled the tooth out right there, on the patio as we ate! "I just had to pull out the one thread!" Talk about giving Daddy the heebie jeebies! He did want to finish his dinner in peace, poor guy, but oh we were all just too too excited! Of course, I had told myself and told myself, put a baggie in your purse you never know when it's going to fall out, and of course I hadn't yet. So into my tight little fist that tiny little tooth went (oh the tears in my eyes, it was so tiny and sweet and oh my baby, my heart hurt) . And home we went pretty fast, with Daniel abandoning all thoughts of eating the rest of that hot dog...his sights were totally set on the promised celebratory ice cream at Andy's!!! After that cool treat, Daniel couldn't wait to get to bed! Annabel on the other hand, had lain in bed that very night lamenting "Why do we HAVE to have night time on this Earth?! It was rather humorous to have the two very different schools of thought on nighttime in our house that night. I had to laugh at that. Daniel had left the tooth in his little tooth fairy box on his nightstand, after a little debate about under the pillow/next to the bed and then he really just couldn't wait to get to sleep.
And, well, the tooth fairy must have thought that this was a very special first loose tooth because Daniel got not only TWO dollars but also a fun small Lego set- a Star Wars microfighter! He was very excited! And more big news...the next tooth was loose, too! Another week of waiting...
Annabel was so excited for Daniel that he lost his first tooth!
Celebratory ice cream from Andy's!!
Look at that GREAT smile!
Such a tiny tooth!
Annabel was excited to see the tooth!
I love these two sweet pictures.
There's the tooth fairy box, waiting and ready next to Daniel's bed!
My big boy.
Hooray!! TWO dollars! And a mini Lego set!!
And then there was that other loose tooth to wait for. It finally came out on Monday July 18th, while we were on vacation, of all places! This time, I'd been toting a plastic baggie, in my back pocket (talk about ready!), for days. We'd been visiting with our sweet relatives, Bobbi Lee and Roger (with the awesome little girl room, you might recall), the kids were playing SO nicely in a room filled with toys, and all of a sudden Daniel was at my side with the tooth in his hand, out nice and clean this time! Oh we all laughed and he was much congratulated! So fun! Bobbi Lee was impressed I had the tooth in a baggie in two seconds flat- handy back pocket that!
Daniel had opted not to bring the tooth fairy box on the trip- we'd given this much discussion beforehand and he'd decided a baggie would be just fine for our trip. I think he was also not all that enamored of losing more teeth, so there was a slight hesitation in making this a big deal; this one was just too much too fast, I think. But alas, it was indeed another chance for the tooth fairy to visit and surprise him! He was pretty excited in the end. He was a little nervous that the tooth fairy wouldn't find him up there in Crystal Falls, since he wasn't home, but we said she would probably know where we were since she is pretty magical, like Santa, and after all, we were sure other kids up there were losing teeth, too. So back at the hotel, Daniel started out with the tooth still in the baggie under his pillow, but ended up putting it on the nightstand again. And then, and this was SO fun to witness, when he opened his eyes the next morning- there was that split second of forgetting and then his eyes lit up and his head popped up, OH YEAH did she come did she? And wow, she did! A dollar! He was thrilled! He could get something from the vending machine now, was his first comment. Oh boy. Actually, he did save that dollar. Smart kid.
Funny side note- when we got home from our trip last night, one of the first things Daniel did was check under his pillow here at home, just in case the tooth fairy left something here, too! Oh my. We had to laugh!
So that's the story! And now we have this double wide gap in Daniel's great smile- I love spotting it when he talks and smiles. It's so different. So...big boy. Oh my goodness. Had to start sometime. No more loose teeth to report now.
