Bridging to Junior Girl Scouts!

In mid-September, Annabel's Brownie Troop leaders arranged an outing to Go Ape so the girls could bridge to Juniors on actual bridges up in the trees on a ropes course! Super fun activity and Annabel was THRILLED to go! She had a blast and loved every minute of their one-hour time block. Annabel had time to do each of the three courses once and then did the second route a second time. Each route ended with the zip line, too, which Annabel loved, and then you just go back and hook yourself on a different line and keep going around! So fun. Annabel really wants to go again someday and she really can't wait till she's ten and tall enough to the big kid two hour long course, too. Very clever Bridging Ceremony activity!

She's officially a Junior Girl Scout now! We'll just have to see how this interesting year goes!

Enjoy the videos, too!

First Day of Barefoot School!

This here was the first day of school- September 1st! We're just about done with the first month as I write this. Anyway, I called it Barefoot School that first day (and all days since)...because...why not? (This was also how I got Daniel to come outside for our traditional first day of school pictures- "You can come out in your bare feet!"- he thought this was hilarious!) But really, the first (and last) picture below shows what Daniel really thinks of all this- "hmph." The rest just show what a good sport he is. AND how tall and grown up he's getting! Love this kid! Annabel was ALL smiles of course! She was SO excited! (And she has been the most fun to shop for this fall, too- new shirt, that! She loves cute clothes now- yay! I really must stop though...) Her outfit was all planned, her things were all laid out, she sat tall and proud and she was Ready. Darling girl- love her to bits!

They start school within minutes of each other, which is really nice, so we can all get up at the same time and have breakfast together. The kids also have lunch at basically the same time- which is very nice and I love that we can all eat together then, too. This first day we treated them to lunch from McDonald's because why not take advantage of being home for the first day of school! That was so fun. They loved that unique first day treat!

I loved getting sneak peeks of their school day that first day. It was very quiet around here. It took me quite some time to feel like I had my place in the house. For the first week, we had both kids on the main floor for school (Daniel in the kitchen, Annabel in the dining room) so we could help with timing, tech issues (at the time our internet was dropping like crazy- VERY annoying- we've since had service and it's wonderful now, phew!), and supplies and so on. Daniel did great getting to all classes on time and all. Annabel was fine, too. Me- I just felt like I had to tiptoe around my house as if I had a sleeping baby all day. I held off on laundry and errands, because I wanted fewer distractions for the kids and I wanted to be around for help and crises and all. It's been an adjustment for me. Now Daniel is back in his room for school (like he was last spring), while Annabel still uses the dining table because she likes being down here and that table is far bigger anyway (she has a lot more "stuff" and many more projects besides; this is different than last spring when she was in her room). I peek in on Daniel from time to time just to say hi, but he's doing just fine. And it's super fun to watch Annabel now and then, too. She waves so happily at me whenever I pass through the halls/doorways- I love it! These sneak peeks are awesome! I have to say, it's still nice having the kids home for school.

Enjoy our first day of school pictures and these sneak peeks of their activities!

And can I just say, how is Daniel looking this tall and so much older??!

Annabel, too- looking so big! I remember this girl...and now I have this adorable 4th grader! What?!

And so it begins...Daniel is officially a middle schooler!

Annabel is all smiles and ready for her 1st day to begin!

First project- a name tent card! So cute. You'll see Annabel incorporates pencils in just about every project she does- I love it!

Things Annabel couldn't imagine life without...family, smiles, time, traveling, pencils, books!, the beach, summer, writing, learning, colors, vacation, and wind. Mine was my kids, husband, family, books, and chocolate (I made Annabel mad when I said this last one because she was all hmph I have no space to add that!). A fun activity!

We joked that all this e-Learning was making the cats very tired!

Annabel had to make a parachute for a paper clip that first day. So fun! She loved this activity and happily demonstrated her different versions.

My two darling children!

Ice Cream sundaes to celebrate getting through the first day! YAY! (And phew.)

But this is still how he feels about it all!

My peaceful picture of the day. Sanity saver this. I could just stare at it.

Genius Cosmo

Our cats are crazy, wild, bored, clever, trouble-makers. Cosmo, in particular, is the stronger one and the cleverer one. His latest antic- he can now PULL actual doors open (not just cabinet doors). Yes, that happened. So he regularly opens the hallway closet now. He still pushes doors open, too, so the playroom and bathrooms are often open. (The bathroom one is problematic because this gives Ziggy a chance to chew up toilet tissue rolls- grrr; we're looking into round door handles for some rooms because Cosmo can't do those...yet (let's just hope never!)). Bathroom cabinets and drawers are then wide open. Our master closet is always open. You can always tell when the cats got bored because you'll find these various doors open. Sigh. I need to have spaces that they can't get into!! I'm sorry, it's just the way it is. Ugh!

Anyway, all this to say... Not long after Cosmo learned to pull actual doors open, we got this email from our vet: "Find out if Cosmo's a secret genius." Ummm...we already know he is!! And no amount of stuff and stimulation and such will satisfy them. That link with brain teasers in the email we got- useless, truly. They are just constantly looking for the next thing to learn to do. Like toddlers. We love 'em anyway!
