Life

More life lately...

Annabel goes into the pit at gymnastics...

A school project of Annabel's...she worked so hard on placing the sequins on the land bits and painting the blue glitter on the ocean bits. Turned out cute!

Daniel's latest Hot Wheel track contraption. Always so fun!

Waiting for me to check out at Kohl's...now that's some photo op!

A Y Guide group activity- science themed, oozy fun!

STEM Night at school! My kids built the tallest paper tower. So fun!

STEM Night "Mad Scientist" photo op! (This was the booth I ran for the event.)

The library brought in 3D pens for our STEM Night and Annabel loves doing these things! She later got one for Christmas- just what she wanted!

Daniel practicing trombone and looking so grown up and amazing.

Daniel's 5th grade class did an assembly line simulation, making "burgers" out of nilla wafers, colored coconut, and York (or Yonk as Daniel still insists) peppermint patties. He brought the finished product home to eat. That little burger was too cute!

My favorite time of day in the library. One of these days, I want a mini disco ball on the shelf in there...the sparkles that thing would throw all over the walls...that would be cool. (I have a disco ball ornament on my Christmas tree in there, which is what got me thinking about a ball there year round. This isn't a completely random thought.)

Daniel built a Lego house to represent the house in a story they were reading at school. So cool! I was mighty impressed with his initiative.

A peek in at Annabel while she's writing...super sweet.

The kids had fun at their Y Guide Pine Car Derby!

I started reading Annabel the unabridged novel of Little Women back at the beginning of December (for our Christmas-y read of the month), and Annabel immediately started reading her own copy- she was so excited to read her own along with ours. It was so sweet- I loved that. I'd also promised her we'd go see the newest Little Women movie that was out over break (we did, with a whole crew of family, too!), but first I wanted her to see the one I grew up watching, which was in my movie cabinet...except that one (in some weird fluke) turned out to be the really old 1933 version, which we watched...but then I had to rent the 1994 version...and then we saw the newest one. Quite the run around, but we've just loved watching them all, and we got the CD for the 1994 version which has the sweetest soundtrack, and then of course we're loving reading full novel (yes, we're still at it...it's taking for-e-ver!!!).

After school reading...

Annabel had a pool party at some point recently and of course my little fish loved that party! She's getting dumped by water in this picture and loving it.

Daniel drew this comic recently...very cute.

Caught in the act!!
Ziggy and his toilet tissue roll obsession. He will shred them to bits if you let him. Sheesh. This cat.

We went as a family to see a musical production of Matilda- darling show. The kids really loved it and really want to go see more shows now. I'm loving how they are growing and enjoying these things! Afterwards, we treated the kids to ice cream at Oberweis. Yumm.

One of Daniel's Tinker Crates made this really cool glow light board. It was awesome!!

Annabel helped me prepare an overnight french toast dinner one evening. She sure loves helping in the kitchen!

Ben took Annabel to see Frozen 2, a much-awaited, long overdue Daddy/Daughter date (owed from way back last January when Annabel missed the Daddy/Daughter dance because we were stuck in California...). Annabel loved it. They had a good time. She especially loved using a gift card she had to buy her own candy.

My kids were asked to help represent our school in saying the pledge at a district board meeting. They did great! Afterwards, we walked around town, looking at Christmas lights. It was delightful. Then we made a stop for ice cream on the way home. More yumms.

Daniel keeps saying what other toys did we play with when we were younger, what other toys are in the basement that we haven't played with in a loooong time...let's get THAT out! The marble tower was the latest in this series of adventures. So fun! The cats were going crazy.

Ringing in 2020!

We rang in the new year with a super fun family activity that afternoon- an Escape Room specifically designed for families with kids! Daniel and Annabel were very excited to try this out. Annabel, especially, was over the moon! It was a very cute set up, Christmas-themed and just challenging enough to keep the kids busy. We went in and the kids got right to work looking all around the room for stuff and clues and making note of things they saw. We had "chores" to do that helped us along (like wash the stuff in the sink and throw out the trash, both of which triggered things that opened and had stuff we needed, etc.). The monitor gave us clues (a jingle bell tone indicated a clue on the screen- cute) only when we had debates (our left or their left?) or needed to notice a smaller detail we hadn't noticed or when we just didn't wait around for something to open (we'd placed ornaments on this board, paused, and went okay yeah whatever, walked away, and it turned out that it opened a drawer we just didn't notice at all)- that kind of stuff, but really, we rocked! We had the best time in there and the kids LOVED it. There was plenty to do for everyone, so we could divide and conquer, but also work together. I could see the kids were so proud to figure things out or to help each other out and it was just so fun for us all. We solved the puzzle with 5 minutes to spare! Santa came down the chimney after we had his cookies "baked" and placed correctly! Super cute. We are really hoping this place comes out with another kids' themed or kids' leveled room (the guy said they're working on it- fingers crossed!), because we all had a great time and would definitely go back! I would definitely recommend this room to other families, though I will say it was a tiny bit young (which I was afraid of, age range was 3-12, but I was still really keen to do it and am so glad we did)- but still, it was really super fun and we were all busy. The kids had a blast and loved it! We were floating on a high after that just because it was such a super fun thing to go out and do together.

The rest of the day was spent playing games and just hanging out at home. We ate yummy foods (mostly junk foods) and watched Men in Black (kids' first time seeing that one...we went on to watch number 2 and 3 in the days after that, and I actually really loved the third one- quite possibly the most; it was a lot of fun to watch all those over break!). We ate a yummy Boston Cream cake and drank "kid-wine" while watching the ball drop in New York live, and then the fireworks (recast) over Disney World for our midnight strike. Just a fun day together for our little family. It was perfect. And now we are in a new decade. How time flies.

Ready to get crackin'!

We did it- we solved our puzzle!

Game time back at home! We're loving this game- Villainous.

Cake time!

Countdown time!
Happy New Year!

Family page-a-day calendar fun for this year- a Joke a Day!

Happy 2020, y'all! Here's wishing you a good one!

Winter Break Fun

I loved having the kids home over Winter Break! We sure kept busy playing and enjoying new Christmas games and Legos and other fun things. Here's some of the fun we had!

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without any Legos!
This cute tree was one of my Lego sets.
Yes, even I get Legos for Christmas. I LOVE Legos!
(I have my eye on the new Lego bookstore now...I mean how perfect is that!)

Annabel was very busy with her new 3D pen! She loves it.
The cats are mighty curious about it, too.

Daniel was very busy building his Lego sets over break. Kitties were often nearby!

Annabel had fun doing handstands in her new shirt...take a closer look!

Aunt Christina gave Annabel quite the boatload of tie-dye headbands- every color you can imagine was in this pack, it was a rather extensive and amazing collection! So fun. Annabel was so excited to get this! She loves wearing them and choosing different colors. I took this picture when she was sitting next to me, taking a break from doing family room gymnastics, and when I looked at this picture afterwards, I thought gosh how old she looks. She just looks so sweet and so grown up in this picture.

That seems to be all the pictures I took over break, but trust me, we were busy and had fun!
