A Very Merry Halloween!

We had snow for Halloween, which I actually happened to love, because...MEMORIES! What fun for the kids! They sure didn't care, they loved it! It made the whole day seem all the more magical and indeed, merry! So, Merry Halloween!

(And now, yes, it's almost time for Merry Christmas...think we'll have snow then? Hah, yeah right. The snow got the date wrong of course, sending us snow for Halloween, pfft, but eh, it was fun then!)

Anyway, we had a lot of fun crafting our costumes this year!! Here's the big reveal!

Annabel went as a pencil- she was darling!! My #1 writer, too- not my #2 pencil, she's #1!!

Daniel went as a Space Invaders arcade game! This was Ben's brain child and it turned out SO cool!

Halloween was a great day of fun for all. I took pictures of the kids in costumes before they went to school (I'm so paranoid- I was even more so this year- I had visions of terrible things happening to these awesome costumes since they were so delicate.) Ben wrapped Daniel's costume up so it would stay safe from the weather elements (because it snowed all day that day pretty much), stay clean at school during the day, and remain secret until parade time that afternoon. I found an awesome shirt for Annabel that said, "Writing is my superpower" which I thought would be perfect over her costume, so it too would remain secret and it would be easy to slip off, and voila she was in her costume for the parade.

The Halloween parade for our school was indoors (for the first time in years and years, I'm told)- but we are SO fortunate that our school even HAD an indoor parade plan (so many schools just flat out cancelled their parades or if they did it indoors parents weren't allowed in, security being what it is in schools these days). AND the kids were so lucky to have SO many people able to come see their parade, too- Grandma Mary Kay AND Grandpa Larry both came (Grandpa retired last spring- so it's really nice he's around for stuff like this now!), and Grandma Cheryl AND Aunt Kathy (in town from Florida for Halloween for a change- so fun for her to be here for such a busy week of kids' activities!!). The parade was such fun to watch, as always.

I got to stay and help with Annabel's class Halloween party, too. That was fun. We did the eyeball rolling on sticks game I did with Daniel's class last year. Very cute with this group, too. I'm glad I was able to be there for her and watch her around the room, too, as well as interact with her class doing my game station.

That afternoon, we'd made plans for Daniel to trick-or-treat with his best friend, Manny, and some other boys, too. Annabel and I decided to join them (her best friend was sadly not available for trick-or-treating), but we also did our own thing as far as pace, since the boys were sluggish and Annabel just zipped merrily along, not too far, but just enough for us to feel like part of the fun and yet be doing our own thing. We had a good time, in spite of the cold (the snow stopped just in time for trick-or-treating, hallelujah- because it was just really blustery windy snowfall). Daniel's costume was easy to layer up and wear a coat with. Annabel's shirt was loose enough to layer underneath it (I think she had something like three layers on under that shirt!) and then she wore gloves and voila, she was plenty warm enough! I think the parents were the coldest, haha. And really, it was SO fun to trick-or-treat in the snow! What a fun memory that will be!

The kids lasted just about an hour, at which point we drove home and then trick-or-treated around our cul-de-sac. Annabel decided she was done after that small loop, but Daniel wanted to go around our block, too, so then it was just my boy and me and it was such a sweet time taking him trick-or-treating just the two of us. I loved it. I don't know how much longer he'll "do" Halloween since he'll be in junior high next year, so this was really nice.

And that was that. We had dinner, watched some Halloween movies, ate candy, and then boom- bedtime. The day went by fast!

Annabel's pre-Halloween fun picture!

Writing IS her superpower indeed!

Final checks on Daniel's costume! We'd just put the final touches on it the night before- the stickers on the "screen." It all turned out great!

Daniel's pre-Halloween fun picture!

All wrapped up and ready to go to school!

Snowy fall window view with a cute kitty, too!

Parade time!!

Party time!! I love this picture.
Annabel loves when it's her turn at these tall desks, by the way. So fun!

My phone does these fun photo effects for me from time to time and I liked this one!

Mother/daughter Halloween picture!
I was Annabel's paper!

Just about ready to trick-or-treat!
Final picture time!

I made their trick-or-treat bags, too.
An "eraser" bag for Annabel and an alien bag for Daniel- these were so fun!

Daniel and his friends!
Manny, Daniel, Neel, Ian, and Michael

Here we go!
Snow much fun!

This is one of my favorite pictures from the day! I love the snowy background!

Heh- this was the ONLY time we let the cats even get near this thing! And it was literally for two seconds at that. They were mighty curious...

Such a FUN Halloween!

Colorful Fall

Fall went by in a blur, with strange weather. It was the kind of fall where it never felt like fall temperature-wise, but rather it just seemed to suddenly get cold. Maybe it's just me being extra wimpy about the cold this year, or is it just my age and I'm getting wimpier as I get older? Still, I do love all the colors of fall and Annabel loves the leaf piles she can make! She had a lot of fun out there. Of course I took pictures!

Rainbow color view from my library windows!

We live near a massive hill, which our little family calls Mount Trashmore (as that is indeed how it was made), and every weekend May through October they are open to visitors at the top. Every fall weekend we'd drive by and I'd say we should go sometime because it must be so pretty up there. And on the very last weekend in October, on our way to Grandma Mary Kay's house for dinner, I'd remarked how we never did make it up there. Cue our glance at the clock, we can still make it, let's do it right now! I'm so glad we did. Such pretty views up there! Although a week earlier it would have been amazing, before the high winds we'd had blew all the colorful leaves off...still, it was pretty. The kids had fun looking at Chicago through the telescope the rangers had set up, too. You can just make it out dead center of the one picture (4th one below)- it was a little hazy, but there it was. So cool. I always love when you can spot the tall buildings from far away like that- something about that just always seemed so cool to me. Anyway, a fun quick stop for our family!

October SNOW!

It's December as I finally write this now, but these adorable snowy pictures are actually from October. Yes- October. As in we had SNOW in OCTOBER! So crazy.

Annabel shot out of bed that morning of October 30th and got ready for school lightning fast so she would have time to play in the snow before walking to school! She was one motivated kid! And it was snowball/snowman snow, too. We had a good time out there! So fun.

Check it out!
