Daniel had his three year doctor check up today. He was so good and so patient for the whole appointment. I was so proud of him. It's always interesting to see how calm he can be for others, when I know how buzzed he can be at home!
Anyway, Daniel is 34 1/4 inches tall and weighs 23 lbs 2 oz. That's up three pounds and three inches from a year ago, an inch and a pound from 6 months ago. Progress. Slowly but surely. On his own growth curve and still much like mine as a child. (The doctor and I are very curious to see how Annabel will fare! She goes in for her 6 month check up soon!) He's my little guy, but he's doing great. The doctor was so impressed with him and so proud of him today. He sure shined for her!
They took his blood pressure; they told him it was like a hug and he just sat there so quietly while they did it- three times, too! All was good there. Daniel also got his flu vaccine, via flu mist, which again, he was a champ for- he didn't bat an eye. We will be checking his milk allergy via blood work in the next week or so, along with a battery of all the usual things the doctor checks for every time we do a blood draw- might as well while we're at it. We'll see how that goes; I've been trying to prepare Daniel for what will happen at that appointment, but we'll see what the reality of it is like. He knows we want to check to see if he's still allergic to milk- that's what I want him to really understand. The doctor actually asked if we'd mistakenly given him any milk products lately and what the reaction was- I said no we're VERY careful! I'm way too paranoid! So we shall see...
On the way home from the appointment today, we stopped at a garage sale that we drove by as left. Daniel had spotted a bulldozer (of course- a truck would totally catch his eye!) when we drove by the first time and I told him we'd stop and see it on the way home. He was very excited to go check that out! It turned out to be a neat bulldozer and a great deal; we even picked up the matching dump truck to go with it. So, while enjoying our very strange streak of 80 degree weather, we had a ton of fun playing with the new trucks outside the rest of the day!
Daniel enjoyed driving them around. These are BIG trucks, too!

The trucks dump and dig very well, too- you can actually really do the actions, as opposed to some of Daniel's other trucks which aren't as flexible as these.
Daniel loves "painting" with water using this old sponge mop. (And no we don't use it indoors anymore...it's Daniel's now!) He told me he was "making a project, a craft." He had a ball! It sure was nice to get outside and enjoy the fresh air again!

Three year old updates for Daniel:
It's sure been an amazing year of growth for Daniel, from being two to now three. I am finding that it's just SO fascinating to watch my children learn, think, grow, and develop personalities. I've said that before and it just never gets old.
Daniel's language has always amazed us, and it never ceases to amaze us every day! His memory is simply amazing, too. I wish my memory was that good! Sometimes, he will just randomly recall something that happened months ago, even a year ago. That always catches me off guard! Daniel also recognizes stores/restaurants (he's always pointing them out- my favorite is "Amnards"- aka Menards), streets (he knows when we're near the grandmas' houses!), and such when we're out and about- actually he's been good at this probably since he was two. He even knows when we take different routes to certain places we frequent- he'll say we're going a "new way". He's a smart kid!! In the past couple months, he's started to be scared- he will snuggle up next to us if there's a "scary" part of a show or movie (scary to a two/three year old, mind you- we certainly don't watch truly scary things!). It's so sweet. He's not scared
of anything yet, though. And he will always hold his lion and kitty cat during that scary part, too. Those two stuffed animals still sleep with him, too. They go every where with us, too. They are
well loved! We've also seen some separation anxiety come up for Daniel, as you well know from his class experiences, but we're working through it and he's doing much better. He's so brave!
Daniel is just such a happy, confident, loving little boy. We just love him so much and we're so super proud of the little boy he's become. And he's a wonderful brother to Annabel. Actually, just in the last week, pretty much since Annabel learned to sit, Daniel has become
so much more affectionate and interactive with her. He's always been good with her, but it's like since she's sitting now, she's this whole new person! It's been so cute to watch. I love it!
I'm also loving the care and empathy he is demonstrating these days, too. If someone gets hurt, he's always right there with a hug and saying "it's okay." It's just so sweet.
Cute things Daniel has been saying lately:
Don't worry- as in "Don't worry, we can just build another tower." "Don't worry, I can just wash it off." So cute. I love his attitude of "don't worry" and the fact that he knows we can take care of things.
Daniel tries to say the expression "as long as" only it comes out with just "long"- which I think is so cute. "It's fun to make messes, long we clean up." At least he knows we need to clean our messes!
Somehow Daniel picked up "ya" for "you"- he often says it when he talks about a "surprise for ya" (just some random pretend surprise he made up). Anyway, "ya" cracks me up!
"That's a deal", an expression I've started to use for some reason, has been turned into "that's NOT a big deal" by Daniel on many occasions! Cute and yet not so much!
And now let me just say again how
much we love our little guy! Annabel loves him so much, too! Proof:

Now aren't those just the sweetest pictures?!!
