I always have a blast making decorations and coordinating things to fit the kids' current interests for their parties. This year, Daniel pondered and pondered about what theme he wanted for his family party and just could not come up with one, and finally asked could he just not do a theme- of course, hon, of course. He is eleven now, that's for sure. He's growing up and we marked that with just a plain ol' party- no theme, just fun and family, all that's needed.
We hosted everybody here on Saturday night this year, since Daniel's actual birthday fell on a Sunday and I always keep that day for ourselves. We're so glad everyone was able to make it, too! My kids had fun decorating with streamers in the hall and finding balloons for Daddy to blow up for some bopping fun. The cousins all ran up to the playroom to play, too, while us adults snacked and chatted as always. Dinner was Italian beef, which was Daniel's choice (once I showed him a picture of what this even was). Cake was strawberry shortcake from the grocery store and a new recipe chocolate chip cake I'd wanted to try (that turned out ok, not really a keeper). We ate, opened presents (Daniel read every single birthday card out loud which was the cutest, and to Josie he gave a lot of attention as she explained her card's drawings to him after which he said in his adorable very Daniel-like voice "okay. good job"- I loved this sweet moment he had with her!), ate more, and the kids played more. It was a wonderful night of celebrating this great kid! I am loving this age so far!
Decorations by Daniel!
(and kissed by Annabel, too!)
Let the fun begin!
Present time!!
Josie shows Daniel all of her drawings of our family on her birthday card. Such a sweet moment.
Josie drew Ben sleeping. This cracked Daniel up!
Daniel read each card aloud for all to hear. Adorable!
What could this little wrapped present be?
Oh- Batteries, haha!
This present said Daniel would start getting the Tinker Crate in the mail!
He's been wanting to get this again, so he's excited!
This book and that book, as stated by Daniel.
Lego movie making kit! Very cool!
Cake time! But first we sing!
Hey Daddy, you need to sing, too, Daniel's eyes said!
11 candles on that cake! Golly.
And after everybody left, he started in on the first Lego set- a Ninjago set.
